The Hormonal Hair Support Edit
Selected by Clare Devereux — Clinical Trichologist, Harley Street & Dublin
A five-product routine for women experiencing hair and scalp changes during menopause, perimenopause, post-pregnancy, or fertility treatment. Restorative care that works with your body’s transitions — scalp, hair, and everything in between.
What this routine addresses
A scalp that’s become sensitive, dry, or reactive during hormonal changes.
Hormonal shifts change the scalp before they change the hair. Oestrogen decline during perimenopause and menopause can make the scalp drier, more sensitive, and more reactive. The Sensitive Scalp Shampoo is allergen-label-free and formulated to calm — the same starting point Clare uses in clinic for hormonal scalp changes.
Hair that’s become drier, more brittle, or breaking more easily.
Hormonal transitions affect both scalp and hair quality. The hair shaft itself can become drier, more brittle, and more prone to breakage. The Intensive Rescue Hair Mask delivers deep weekly nourishment — chanterelle, hydrolyzed keratin, and shea butter repair and strengthen from the outside while your body adjusts from the inside.
More shedding than usual — especially post-pregnancy or during perimenopause.
Telogen effluvium — temporary disruption to the hair cycle — is common during and after hormonal transitions. Post-pregnancy shedding typically appears 2 to 4 months after birth. Perimenopausal shedding can be more gradual. This routine doesn't stop the shedding, but it protects and strengthens the hair you have so regrowth comes back healthier.
Everything about your hair feels different since the hormonal change began.
The scalp changes, the hair changes, the texture changes, the volume changes. It can feel like everything is shifting at once. This Edit addresses the scalp and hair simultaneously — the Sensitive Scalp Shampoo and Oil for the foundation, the Conditioner and Mask for the hair, the Mist for daily protection. Five products because the situation asks for it.
Going through fertility treatment, HRT, or post-partum recovery.
IVF, hormone replacement, post-partum recovery — your body is under significant physiological load. This routine is the hair care layer that works alongside your medical care. Gentle, restorative, and designed not to interfere with anything your doctor has prescribed.
There may be a better starting point if
- Your scalp is the primary concern and your hair quality is fine. The Scalp Recovery Edit focuses entirely on the scalp without the additional hair repair products
- Your hair changes are linked to GLP-1 medication rather than hormonal transitions. The GLP-1 Hair Support Edit addresses that specific situation
- Your hair is generally healthy and you just want a good daily routine. The Everyday Healthy Hair Edit is the simpler foundation for when your situation doesn’t require specialist support
- Your primary concern is volume and thinning rather than overall scalp and hair quality changes. The Volume & Strength Edit uses active scalp-stimulating ingredients designed for that
- Your hair needs repair from colour or heat damage rather than hormonal change. The Deep Repair Edit addresses external damage specifically
From Clare
Hormonal transitions change hair in ways that can feel bewildering. Your scalp behaves differently. Your hair texture shifts. The volume you had disappears. The hair you’re used to stops being the hair you see in the mirror. I hear this from clients every week — and the most important thing I can tell you is that what you’re experiencing makes complete physiological sense.
Oestrogen is deeply involved in the hair cycle. When it fluctuates or declines — during perimenopause, menopause, post-pregnancy, or fertility treatment — both the scalp and the hair shaft are affected. The scalp often becomes drier and more reactive. The hair can become finer, more brittle, and more prone to breakage. Shedding increases. It’s not one thing going wrong — it’s the whole system adjusting.
This is the largest Edit in the range because the situation asks for it. The Sensitive Scalp Shampoo addresses the scalp gently. The Moisturising Conditioner nourishes the mid-lengths and ends. The Intensive Rescue Hair Mask delivers deep weekly repair that daily conditioner can’t match — chanterelle, keratin, and shea butter working at a level your hair genuinely needs right now. The Rosemary Strength Oil supports the scalp between washes. And the Keratin Glow Mist protects everything you’ve done, carrying the results from wash day through to the next. Five products, each earning its place.

Begin with personalised guidance
Hormonal transitions are deeply individual — your experience of perimenopause, menopause, post-pregnancy, or fertility treatment is specific to you. A written assessment personalised to your circumstances can confirm this Edit is right, suggest refinements, or flag something worth discussing with your GP or specialist.
- Sensitive Scalp Shampoo
- Moisturising Conditioner
- Intensive Rescue Hair Mask
- Rosemary Strength Oil
- Keratin Glow Mist
- Private Hair & Scalp Note
The Experience
White florals and soft red fruits from the shampoo, settling warm and sweet. Rich, creamy tuberose from the mask — enveloping and nourishing. Fresh rosemary and peppermint from the oil. A light floral-aquatic finish from the mist. Five distinct moments that layer into one considered, restorative ritual.
Your Routine
A daily foundation plus two weekly treatments. More products than the other Edits because the situation calls for care at every level — scalp, hair shaft, and daily protection.
- Rosemary Strength Oil (1–2 times per week, before washing)
Apply a small amount directly to the scalp. Massage gently for a few minutes. Leave for at least 15 minutes — or overnight. Then wash out with the Sensitive Scalp Shampoo. - Sensitive Scalp Shampoo (every wash day, four times a week)
Lukewarm water — heat aggravates reactive scalps. Lather gently with fingertips on the scalp. Let it sit for a moment. Rinse thoroughly. - Moisturising Conditioner (most wash days — mid-lengths and ends only)
Keep conditioner away from the scalp. Apply to mid-lengths and ends, leave for one to two minutes, rinse well. - Intensive Rescue Hair Mask (once a week — replaces the conditioner on that day)
Apply generously to mid-lengths and ends after shampooing. Leave for five to ten minutes. Rinse thoroughly. This is the deep treatment your daily conditioner can’t match. - Keratin Glow Mist (every wash day + non-wash days)
Towel-dry gently, then mist through mid-lengths and ends. No rinsing. On non-wash days, use on dry hair to refresh shine and protect.
Five products sounds like a lot, but only three are used on a typical wash day. The oil is once or twice a week before you wash. The mask replaces the conditioner once a week. The mist is the only product you use every day — and it takes ten seconds.
Common Questions
Is this permanent?
Most hormonal hair changes are reversible or manageable once the transition stabilises. Post-pregnancy shedding typically resolves within 6 to 12 months. Perimenopausal changes are more gradual but respond to consistent care. The hair that regrows benefits from already being in a routine that supports it.
Will these products interfere with HRT or fertility treatment?
No. These are topical products that support hair and scalp health from the outside. They don't interact with HRT, fertility medication, or any other prescribed treatment. If you have concerns about your hormonal care, speak with your GP or specialist.
Why five products instead of three or four?
Because hormonal transitions affect both the scalp and the hair simultaneously. The Scalp Recovery Edit addresses scalp sensitivity alone. The Everyday Edit addresses healthy hair alone. This Edit does both — the Sensitive Scalp Shampoo and Oil for the scalp, the Conditioner, Mask, and Mist for the hair. The fifth product isn't excess — it's the bridge between the two.
This is enough. A complete routine for where you are right now. As your body settles into its new normal, you may find you need less — the Everyday Healthy Hair Edit is the simpler routine for when the transition is behind you. Or you may stay with this. Either way, the routine moves with you.
From the Studio Notes
Clare has written about the difference between shedding and breakage — why they look similar but need different responses. If you’re noticing more hair in your brush, understanding which one you’re experiencing changes how you respond. Her guide to how often you should wash your hair when shedding explains the clinical reasoning behind maintaining your wash frequency rather than reducing it.
