The Volume & Strength Edit

Selected by Clare Devereux — Clinical Trichologist, Harley Street & Dublin

A three-product routine for hair that’s thinning, lacking volume, or not as full as it used to be. Active scalp-stimulating ingredients — chanterelle, caffeine, and rosemary — combined with daily strengthening and protection.

What this routine addresses

Hair that’s noticeably thinner than it used to be.

Hair that's gradually becoming finer or less dense is often a scalp environment issue. The follicles are still there — they're just producing thinner, weaker strands. The Keratin Volume Boost duo contains chanterelle extract and caffeine, both of which support the scalp environment that healthy, fuller hair grows from.

Flat hair that won’t hold volume no matter what you try.

Volume isn't just about the hair you have — it's about how each strand holds itself. Fine hair lies flat because the shaft lacks body. Hydrolyzed keratin in both the shampoo and conditioner strengthens and thickens the individual strand, giving it the structural support to hold volume rather than collapse.

Hair that breaks easily and won’t grow past a certain length.

Hair that breaks easily is losing length and density. The combination of keratin (structural repair) and rosemary oil (scalp nourishment) works both the strand and the foundation. Stronger hair from the scalp out, with less breakage along the way.

Wanting fuller hair without the buildup of volumising products.

Most volume-boosting products work by coating the hair with polymers that create temporary bulk. This routine works differently — chanterelle and caffeine stimulate the scalp environment, keratin strengthens the shaft, and rosemary oil supports healthy circulation. The volume comes from the hair itself, not from what's sitting on top of it.

Age-related thinning that you want to address proactively.

Thinning after 40 is common and usually reflects hormonal and circulatory changes in the scalp. This routine is designed for exactly that — active ingredients that support the scalp's ability to produce stronger, fuller strands. It's not a treatment for hair loss conditions, but it is a genuine foundation for hair that's naturally thinning.

There may be a better starting point if
  • Your scalp is uncomfortable — tightness, flaking, irritation. The Scalp Recovery Edit addresses scalp sensitivity first. A reactive scalp needs to settle before active stimulation can help
  • Your thinning is linked to GLP-1 medication — Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro. The GLP-1 Hair Support Edit addresses the specific shedding pattern that medication triggers
  • Hormonal transitions — menopause, perimenopause, post-pregnancy — are driving the changes. The Hormonal Hair Support Edit addresses both the scalp and hair quality shifts that hormones cause
  • Your hair isn’t thinning but it’s damaged — dry, breaking, dull from colour or heat. The Deep Repair Edit is designed for structural repair rather than volume
  • Your hair is healthy and just needs a good daily routine. The Everyday Healthy Hair Edit is the simpler foundation for hair without a specific volume concern
From Clare

This is a different routine from the Everyday Edit — and it’s different on purpose. The Keratin Volume Boost duo contains active scalp-stimulating ingredients that the Moisturising range doesn’t. Chanterelle extract — the same mushroom prized in European cuisine — is rich in vitamins and minerals that support the scalp environment. Caffeine stimulates circulation at the follicle level. And rosemary oil, used weekly, deepens that scalp support.

Most volume products work by depositing polymers that temporarily puff up the hair. This routine doesn’t do that. It works at the foundation — the scalp and the strand itself. Hydrolyzed keratin strengthens each individual hair shaft, giving it the structural integrity to hold volume naturally. The difference is real and it’s cumulative. You won’t see it after one wash, but after three to four weeks of consistent use, you’ll notice your hair holds itself differently. Fuller at the root, stronger along the length, and less of it left in your brush.

Begin with personalised guidance

Thinning has many possible causes — hormonal, nutritional, genetic, environmental. A written assessment personalised to your situation can confirm this Edit is the right approach, or flag whether the thinning needs investigation before you start a routine.

  • Keratin Volume Boost Shampoo
  • Keratin Volume Boost Conditioner
  • Rosemary Strength Oil
  • Private Hair & Scalp Note
The Experience

Aromatic rosemary and fresh peppermint from the shampoo, conditioner, and oil — invigorating without being overwhelming. A warm vanilla and gourmand base anchors it. This routine smells active. Like something is happening. Because it is.

Your Routine

Two steps on wash days, four times a week. Plus a weekly oil treatment for deeper scalp stimulation.

  • Rosemary Strength Oil (1–2 times per week, before washing)
Apply a small amount directly to the scalp. Massage with fingertips for a few minutes — the massage itself supports circulation. Leave for at least 15 minutes, or overnight. Then wash out with the KVB Shampoo.
  • Keratin Volume Boost Shampoo (every wash day)
Apply to wet hair. Lather with fingertips, focusing on the scalp — this is where the chanterelle and caffeine do their work. Leave for a moment before rinsing to let the actives make contact. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Keratin Volume Boost Conditioner (every wash day — mid-lengths and ends)Apply to mid-lengths and ends. Leave for one to two minutes. The conditioner continues the strengthening — keratin and nettle leaf nourish without weighing the hair down. Rinse well.

This Edit doesn’t include the Keratin Glow Mist — by design. The KVB duo is already keratin-rich, and the oil adds weekly scalp support. Adding a keratin mist on top risks weighing down the volume you’re trying to build. If you want a finishing mist later, it’s available separately.

Common Questions

Will this stop my hair from thinning?

This routine supports the scalp environment and strengthens the hair you have. It's designed for hair that's gradually thinning — not for diagnosed hair loss conditions like alopecia. If your thinning is sudden, patchy, or accompanied by scalp changes, see your GP first. A written assessment through the Private Hair & Scalp Note can also help determine whether this is the right starting point.

How is this different from the Everyday Edit?

The KVB range is more active than the Moisturising range — it contains scalp-stimulating ingredients that the Moisturising duo doesn't. If your scalp is comfortable and your concern is volume, the KVB duo is the right choice. If your scalp is sensitive or reactive, start with the Scalp Recovery Edit instead — stimulation on a reactive scalp can make things worse.

How long before I notice a difference?

Three to four weeks of consistent use before you notice a difference in volume and body. The strengthening effect is cumulative — keratin builds up in the hair shaft over time. The oil's scalp support compounds weekly. This is a routine that rewards consistency, not a single-use transformation.

This is enough. Three products working at three levels — scalp stimulation, strand strengthening, weekly deep nourishment. The volume your hair is capable of is still there. This routine helps it show up.

From the Studio Notes

If you’re noticing hair coming out at the root alongside the thinning, Clare has written about the difference between shedding and breakage — understanding which one you’re experiencing changes the response. Her guide to blood tests for hair loss explains which markers to ask your GP to check if the thinning is significant.
